DID YOU KNOW?The Statistics
As of February 2017, there are over 3,500 foster children in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex? On average, these will children change placements SEVEN TIMES during their journey through the foster care system. Each time a child is moved, their personal items, if any, are tossed into a trash bag to be sent to their next placement.

Long-TermThe Effects
Quote from a former foster child:
I was moved several times growing up. Beyond the challenges of being shipped from home to home, of being abused, of feeling unwanted and abandoned, I was further degraded when I had my things thrown in trash bags each time I made a painful move. It's hard enough to lose a parent, friends, or a home, but when my belongings were thrown into a trash bag, I'd lost my dignity. No child or young person deserves to feel this way. |
Taking ActionBackpacks with Hope
Our mission is to provide every youth a backpack filled with basic necessities upon entering the foster care system. In doing so, we aim to give foster children not only the things they need while in transition, but also comfort, items to call their own and - above all else - hope.
